The OYO Blarney Stone Hotel has been closed since an inspection on 30 May

A hotel has been closed and ordered to stop trading after inspectors uncovered safety concerns including exposed live wires.

Council officials have put a notice up outside the OYO Blarney Stone, on Alexandra Road in South Shore, Blackpool, indicating they are taking legal action against the establishment.

The notice cited four areas of concern – electrical hazards, fire safety issues, structural collapse and food safety, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Blackpool Council said: "The enforcement notices will not be revoked until the property is made safe."

The authority said the emergency prohibition order was issued following a visit to the hotel on 30 May by housing enforcement and health and safety officers.

As well as the wires, they found the hotel had compromised fire escapes, a collapsed ceiling in the basement and no means of cooking facilities for residents of the rooms in the main building.

The hotel is owned by OYO Rooms - also known as OYO Hotels & Homes - which owns several properties in Blackpool.

The company has been approached for comment.
