  • Tierney deal ‘best move Celtic made’published at 17:26 British Summer Time 10 June

    Amy Canavan
    BBC Sport Scotland

Bringing Kieran Tierney back to the club is “probably the best move Celtic have made”, says former captain Scott Brown.

Brown was Tierney’s team-mate when he broke through at the Scottish champions and believes the deal is a “really good fit” for both parties.

“Longer term, Kieran will be Celtic captain,” Brown told BBC Sport Scotland.

“He's a very, very good character in and about the place. Everyone loves him because he gives 110% and you can see how good he's got going down the road, working with better players.

“He's nowhere near coming to the end of his career. He'll probably say, 'can I go and win trophies and show that I'm a top quality player?' and go again.”

Get Involved - 'Man Utd have a serious issue'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 10 June

Man Utd have a serious issue. They need to clear the decks but need to appreciate that players who have seriously underperformed and often shown a poor attitude are not going to command top dollar.

    Andrew

If Garnacho is worth £70m then why replace such a good and valuable player with cheaper ones such as Cuhna and Mbeumo? Either they're worse or United overvalue massively.

  • Gyokeres would be more reliant on open-play goals at Man Utdpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 10 June

    Tom McCoy
    BBC Sport journalist

Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres continues to be linked with a move to Manchester United, where he would be reunited with Ruben Amorim, the manager who brought him to Portugal from Coventry for around £20m in 2023.

The 27-year-old striker, who is reportedly now valued by Sporting at £67m, has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for the club, also contributing 26 assists.

The Swede averaged more than a goal per game in the season just gone, netting 54 times in 52 appearances.

The question for suitors is whether he could be quite so prolific in a top European league. It’s perhaps worth noting 35% of his goals in 2024-25 came from penalties, when he successfully converted all 19 of his spot-kicks.

Should he move to Old Trafford he may have to rely more on open-play goals as he would be unlikely to dislodge Bruno Fernandes as penalty taker. United’s captain rarely makes a mistake from 12 yards, scoring 38 of 42 spot-kicks since ing, excluding shoot-outs.

  • Pickford could sit out England friendly against Senegalpublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 10 June

England v Senegal (Tue, 19:45 BST)

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

England manager Thomas Tuchel is understood to be considering starting Jordan Pickford on the bench against Senegal.

Tuchel is keen to have a look at current understudies Dean Henderson and James Trafford which could see Everton keeper Pickford sit out tonight’s friendly at the City Ground.

Pickford – who has 76 international caps - has been a mainstay of the England starting XI for eight years, starting as the team’s first choice keeper in the previous four major tournaments.

Speaking last week, Tuchel hinted that Henderson was the leading contender to replace Pickford if there is to be a change in goal, saying: "He's doing everything to keep his place because he feels that Dean [Henderson] stepped up and found another gear.

"Dean got a vital title for Palace (the FA Cup) and he was a big figure. This helped his confidence a lot.

"Then we have the very young James Trafford who played a fantastic, record-breaking campaign with Burnley and got clean sheets.

"Hopefully he can prove himself in the Premier League next season and then the race is on. It is a fight for every position, there is no exception for goalkeepers."

@Stuart 16:09, I Liverpool years back trying the same strategy and it wasn't exactly successful. If you sign a bunch of players from mid-table sides, you can't be surprised when you end up with a mid-table side.
