What do you think Newcastle fans?

Would Nick Pope and James Trafford make a decent goalkeeping unit?

Both Pope and Trafford have been in or around the England senior squad in recent years.

Trafford, 22, led the England Under-21s to a European title, and while he struggled after being thrown into a Burnley side that faltered during their last promotion to the Premier League, helped the Clarets to a remarkable 29 clean sheets last season.

If I could select two summer targets, Mbeumo would be my realistic one, with Cunha in already. Mbeumo would only bolster the attacking threat we so desperately need and have done for the last few seasons. My unrealistic one would be Donnarumma. We all know Onana has not been good enough, and a world-class keeper is something we need, and if I could pick any keeper in the world right now, I would take him every day of the week.

  • Maignan won't Chelsea - yetpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 10 June

    BBC Sport football news reporter

Chelsea have a clear valuation for goalkeeper Mike Maignan but they are refusing to pay AC Milan's asking price, so a deal is not expected to happen today.

Mike Penders and Filip Jorgensen cost Chelsea £45m last summer. Penders is seen as one of the best teenage goalkeepers and Sanchez had a good last six games to help the Blues qualify for Champions League.

The recruitment has been led by sporting directors, who explored the opportunity to sign Maignan but only at their right price.

  • Maignan move to Chelsea off - gossippublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 10 June

OK, let's get into some fresh rumours then.

Alex and Steve have had a sly dig at the size and scope of Chelsea's squad, but Fabrizio Romano, external has reported that the Blues will not be g AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan today because the Premier League side are unwilling to meet the Italian club's asking price.

Romano says that Milan have a firm asking price, but Chelsea feel like they are being asked to pay a 'Club World Cup tax'.

Maignan's contract at Milan expires in 2026, so Chelsea could decide to open pre-contract negotiations with him in January.

I’d like to those commiserating Dan from Slough on the desperate situation at Chelsea where they have to “scrape together” 3 or 4 attackers from Neto, Delap, Palmer, Madueke, Jackson, Nkunku, Dewsbury-Hall, George, Guiu, Broja, Felix, Sterling, (Mudryk), and possibly Gittens.

  • Why is the summer transfer window split into two?published at 12:36 British Summer Time 10 June

In short, the early transfer window - from 1-10 June - has been introduced to allow teams participating in the Club World Cup the chance to sign players before the tournament begins on 15 June.

Fifa rules state a transfer window cannot last more than 16 weeks in a calendar year, hence the split this summer.

Manchester City and Chelsea are the two Premier League clubs competing at the Club World Cup, but any team can participate in the early window.

It's also important to note that while City and Chelsea need to complete gs before submitting their squads for the Club World Cup later today, they will have another chance to add to that squad after the group stages, when the transfer window will be back up and running.
