This transfer window doesn’t feel like it’s got a Peter Odemwingie moment in it. All a bit lacklustre really.

Steve, Leeds

Keep the faith, Steve. There's time yet for a player to drive to an opposition club's ground to try and force a move.

  • Is Cunha the solution to Man Utd's attacking problems?published at 11:30 British Summer Time 10 June

    Matheus CunhaImage source, Getty Images

Matheus Cunha, as it stands, will become Manchester United's first g of the summer after United and Wolves have come to an agreement.

The 26-year-old's £62.5m release clause has been activated and the former Atletico Madrid player will sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford, with the option of a further 12 months.

He has been the heartbeat of Wolves' attacking threat, scoring crucial goals, linking up play and unpicking defences with moments of individual brilliance.

In addition, 2024-25 saw him equal the record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian player in a Premier League season, along with Roberto Firmino (2017-18) and Gabriel Martinelli (2022-23), with 15 goals.

Cunha would be a boost to a Manchester United team that has struggled to score goals.

According to Opta, United had a shot conversion rate of just 12.3% this season - only Southampton's was lower - as they were outscored by all but four teams in the Premier League.

  • Cunha's Man Utd deal will be done before end of monthpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 10 June

BBC Sport chief football news reporter

Manchester United are not involved in any kind of European football next season, let alone the Club World Cup, so there are no pressing issues for them to get deals done.

However, it is anticipated Matheus Cunha will officially complete his £62.5m move from Wolves at some point this month, well ahead of United's return for pre-season training.

Cunha is currently in Brazil preparing for tonight's World Cup qualifier with Paraguay.

Manchester United are expected to open talks with Brentford over striker Bryan Mbeumo.

United head coach Ruben Amorim is prioritising g additional striking firepower this summer to bolster his misfiring attack.

The Old Trafford side scored only 44 Premier League goals last season - the fifth lowest tally in the league - with big-money gs Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing only four and three respectively.

United feel confident in making a move for Cameroon international Mbeumo, 25, who scored 20 times for the Bees in the league last season, after receiving indications they are his first choice for a move this summer.

It is understood there is no release clause in Mbeumo's contract, which still has a year left to run, although there is the option to extend it by another year.

It's not a shiny new g, but Manchester City have made two interesting deadline day moves.

The Dutchman left Liverpool along with Klopp in 2024, before spending six months in charge of RB Salzburg.

Iain making a little joke there (10.38 BST) about Chelsea being short of wingers. We’ve literally just sent Sancho back, lost Mudryk, meaning we are left with Neto, Madueke and George? Think we’re right to be wanting to add a bit more on the wings.

  • What deals can we expect?published at 11:00 British Summer Time 10 June

It's been a quiet deadline day (part one) so far, but here are some of the deals that could be completed before 19:00 BST today:

    • Lyon and midfielder Rayan Cherki to Manchester City - though sources inside the club were calling reports of the transfer being agreed as 'premature'.
    • Pep Guardiola's side are also hoping to complete the g of AC Milan midfielder Tijani Reijnders.
    • Chelsea's continued pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. Yesterday's gossip suggested an offer of £29.5m had been rejected by Dortmund for the English winger - could Chelsea make an improved offer today?
    • Chelsea have also been linked with a move for AC Milan and goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
    • Liverpool are hoping to reach a final agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for German midfielder Florian Wirtz, though negotiations with the club are dragging on.

Stay tuned for updates on all of the above and more!

  • Gittens v Maduekepublished at 10:55 British Summer Time 10 June

    Noni MaduekeImage source, Getty Images

In Enzo Maresca's time at Chelsea, wingers have been interchangeable, with players often switching positions during matches.

The right-hand option has generally been Noni Madueke and he has excelled with his output in attack.

His goals and assists per 90 all competitions in 2024-25 edge out Gittens at 0.6 compared with 0.5, while he had also more shots per 90 (3.5) and more shots on target per 90 (1.5) than both Gittens and Sancho.

Madueke's 2024-25 also featured more touches in the opposition box per 90 than the other two (8.6 compared to 6.0 and 6.5).

The numbers suggest there is still room for improvement in Gittens' game, and the drop-off towards the end of the season that saw him start only three of the final 10 matches could be a concern.

But, Chelsea often favours potential over ready-made and, at just 20 years old, Gittens has time on his side to become a top-level talent.

  • Gittens v Sanchopublished at 10:50 British Summer Time 10 June

Jadon Sancho and Jamie GittensImage source, Getty Images

When it comes to output across all competitions in 2024-25, Jamie Gittens just comes out on top for combined goals and assists, with 17 compared to Jadon Sancho's 15. However, they were equal in their goalscoring efficiency, with both having a shot conversion rate of 15.6%.

Sancho's strength lay in what he did for others, creating more chances than Gittens playing more es into the box and winning possession in the final third more often, according to Opta.

Gittens on the other hand, was particularly strong on what he did with the ball at his feet.

The England Under-21 international proved higher for dribbles completed (3.6 to 2.2), 10 or more progressive carries (181 to 133), duels won per 90 (7.2 to 3.6) and then winning over half of those duels (50.1% as opposed to Sancho's 44.7%).

  • Why do Chelsea need to bolster their attacking options?published at 10:44 British Summer Time 10 June

    Chelsea

Nicolas Jackson and Cole PalmerImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea’s only players to reach double figures for goals in the Premier League in the 2024-25 season were Cole Palmer (15) and Nicolas Jackson (10).

Palmer (eight) also led for assists, while Jackson was t third with six, alongside Pedro Neto and one behind Enzo Fernandes.

The Blues’ tally of 64 goals was the lowest of any side to finish in the top five in the Premier League.

Despite having a deep squad - in of numbers, at least - the Blues had no real alternative to Jackson in the number 9 role.

Former Barcelona striker Marc Guiu scored six goals in six matches in Chelsea’s successful march to the Conference League title, including a hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers, but the 19-year-old failed to get on the scoresheet in three Premier League appearances.

midfielder Christopher Nkunku was also expected to offer an alternative up front. While he bagged seven goals in the Conference League and four in the domestic cup competitions, the 27-year-old former RB Leipzig and Paris St-Germain player only found the net three times in the league.

Chelsea are interested in a talented young winger - far from the first time that storyline has appeared during a transfer window.

The latest name on their lips is Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.

The predominantly left-winger, 20, has caught the eye after a breakthrough 2024-25 season in the Bundesliga where he scored 12 goals and provided five assists across 48 games in all competitions.

His purple patch came over Christmas, scoring or assisting in six out of seven games between November and January - but, notably, did find the net just once more after this.

  • Who will replace Ait-Nouri at Wolves?published at 10:25 British Summer Time 10 June

    Nick Mashiter
    BBC Sport football news reporter

With left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri ing Manchester City for £31m, attention at Wolves turns to replacements.

Forward Matheus Cunha also swapped Molineux for Manchester, moving to United for £62.5m, meaning Wolves have done good business early - allowing boss Vitor Pereira to shape his squad.

They are in the market for a left-back and Hugo Bueno will return from his loan at Feyenoord to compete for the spot. The 22-year-old played 29 times, including in the Champions League, as Feyenoord finished third in the Eredivisie.

Pereira is a fan so expect Bueno - who has been at the club for five years - back at Molineux next season while Wolves will also look for another left-back for competition.

A right-back - with captain Nelson Semedo out of contract and yet to sign the new deal offered - and at least one number 10 are on Pereira's wishlist.

English winger Grealish made only seven starts in 20 games in the 2024-25 season, contributing a goal and an assist in the Premier League.

Liverpool fans need to relax, the Kerkez deal will go through soon, the Wirtz deal is huge and therefore a lot more complicated. Also have to factor in that he is an Adidas pin up boy and they will not want him to be seen in a Nike shirt. Although I hope we don’t have to wait for the new kit deal to kick in on August 1st!
